OUR TRAVEL GEAR
The gear we take with us on the road
Image quality, versatility, weight and simplicity: our equipment evolves with the way we travel.
Pack better.
Not necessarily more.
Over the years, we have learnt that a technically excellent device can still spend the whole trip at the bottom of the bag. A few hundred grams, one extra battery or a few more minutes of setup can genuinely change how often we use something.
Our rule has therefore become simple: every piece of gear must have a real purpose in the field.
IN OUR BAG
Our current gear at a glance
Four devices, four complementary uses. We then choose what we actually take according to the trip.

SMARTPHONE
The one we always have with us
The smartphone is probably the device we use most often. It is instantly available, discreet and versatile enough to photograph or film a scene without interrupting the trip to unpack the rest of the gear.
- Always available.
- Fast and discreet.
- Very versatile for photo and video.
- Excellent when travelling light.
- Less suitable for distant wildlife.
- Battery life needs watching.
- Less control than a dedicated camera.
TWO GENERATIONS • ONE PHILOSOPHY
Sony RX10: from IV to V
The Sony RX10 IV travelled with us on many trips and is still capable of producing excellent photographs. Its main strength is versatility: one camera can cover landscapes, details and much more distant subjects.
Our equipment is now evolving towards the Sony RX10 V. That does not mean the RX10 IV is no longer good enough; it is simply a gradual evolution of the gear we use.
- No lens changes.
- Large zoom range.
- Very useful for wildlife.
- Versatile for landscapes.
- One body covers many situations.
DJI AIR 3S
Seeing a destination from another point of view
The drone helps us show landscapes that are difficult to understand in the same way from the ground: a road crossing a region, the shape of a coastline, the isolation of a place or simply the scale of a landscape.
DJI ACTION 6 PRO
When the action starts, it takes over
Our action camera has evolved too. We now use the DJI Action 6 Pro when taking out the smartphone or the Sony is less practical: water, dynamic activities, mounted shots or more immersive sequences.
- Compact and easy to carry.
- Very useful around water.
- Well suited to mounted shots.
- Highly immersive for video.
- Ultra-wide is not right for every scene.
- We mainly use it for video.
- Accessories can quickly add up.
WHAT SOMETIMES STAYS AT HOME
And the gimbal?
Technically, the gimbal is an excellent tool. It produces very smooth movement and more cinematic footage. In practice, however, it adds weight, bulk and setup time. With the smartphone, Sony, drone and action camera already in the bag, it is often one of the first items we leave at home.
A great tool is not always the right tool for the way we travel.
IN PRACTICE
So what do we actually take?
It always depends on the destination. A safari, a hike, a road trip or a few days in a city do not require exactly the same bag.
